Most battery technologies are electrochemical—they rely on chemical reactions to store energy. This process inherently generates heat, causes material stress, and leads to the "slow fade" of capacity over time. If a chemical battery gets too hot, it can enter "thermal runaway"—an exothermic fire that is virtually impossible to extinguish.
WEST technology is electrostatic. Electricity is stored as electricity, without chemical conversion.
